The Ipswich Chord is a new 1.2km double track railway providing essential connection between the East Suffolk Line and the Great Eastern Line. The Chord forms part of the strategic freight network which is crucial in easing congestion for both passenger and freight services.
CPMS initially undertook a 'health check' on the project to provide the client with an in-depth review and a number of recommendations. CPMS secured a further commission to review, develop and improve the working relationships between the client and the contractor and positively implemented a collaborative working approach that contributed to the overall success of the project.
CPMS was requested to provided ongoing programme management services for the remaining 9 months of the project, culminating with the project being extremely successful, delivered on-time and to budget. This was recognised in July 2014 with the project collecting the 'Major Project of the Year' award at Network Rails Partnership Awards.
Over the course of this commission, CPMS worked with the client and main works contractor to introduce several unique site safety and control measures, including:
• New Biometric site access system to operate across numerous site access points
• An interactive Safety Stand Down day that included interactive sessions with a scaffolding company and plant suppliers.
