CPMS Employee Spotlight
24 January 2020
Name: Andy Parker
Role: Head of Programme and Project Management (PPM) and Southern Regional Lead
Length at CPMS: 6 1/2 years
What's involved in your role?
I'm accountable for business growth in the Southern Region, ensuring successful delivery of all commissions. I'm responsible for the PPM service group, ensuring consistency throughout. I also support Network Rail's Wessex Route to deliver CP5 and CP6 Enhancement and Renewals workbanks, which covers anything from Stations to bridges to level crossings, including the railway systems elements. Even a pier in the Isle of Wight!
What do you enjoy most about the role?
I enjoy being part of a dynamic, enthusiastic and collaborative team. My role has introduced me to a wide range of interesting people and companies, and I enjoy supporting members of the team to develop in their roles and careers.
Favourite project to date
My favourite project to date is Gospel Oak to Barking. Despite the significant challenges it's rare to be part of a large and complex multi-discipline project that really does cover all bases, involving multiple contractors. The team pulled together throughout and we still managed to have a laugh along the way.
Advice to anyone looking to work in rail?
To develop a career in the Railway I would advise getting exposure to a variety of different projects, scope and size, both Client and Contractor side. This will enable you to decide which elements you're interested in, meet a wide range of people who will be key contacts for the future and understand how different teams work. Mix this with an element of relevant training and you're good to go.
